YEAR 5/6
STEM Day 2025: From fizzing volcanoes to 3D design, our classrooms buzzed with creativity, collaboration and curious minds at work!
Our annual STEM Day on Tuesday August 5, was a wonderful celebration of creativity, collaboration and curiosity. The R/1s’ erupting volcanoes were a crowd favourite, with the slow but effervescent one drawing plenty of “oohs” and “aahs.” Each host class welcomed visitors into their learning spaces, mentoring them through their STEM creations and activities. Parents roved the classrooms with enthusiasm, posing excellent questions to our budding innovators. From Bee-Bot programming and tower engineering to designing 3D creations with the Makers Empire app, the day was filled with hands-on exploration and inspiring moments of discovery. Thanks to all for making the day such a blast!

Dear Families,
PRAYERS FOR MICHAEL HIGGIE
On Monday we shared on Audiri the sad news of the passing of one of our staff members, Michael Higgie. Michael was our Work, Health and Safety Officer working each Thursday with us. Michael first joined our staff in 2006 as a contractor groundsman before becoming our permanent groundsman. In 2013 Michael took on the role of Work, Health and Safety Officer in addition to the role of groundsman. Michael passed away peacefully on Saturday. We ask you to join our school staff in keeping Michael’s family and friends in your thoughts and prayers. May Michael rest in God’s peace.
STEM OPEN DAY
Thank you to the parents who were able to join us at the exciting and innovative STEM Open Day last week. We saw a fantastic variety of STEM activities including volcanic eruption science experiments, mathematics challenges, space stations, Bee-Bots, scientific problem solving, Makerspace mazes and 3D printing. The children from Preschool to Year 6 enjoyed visiting each other and sharing their learning experiences. Many thanks to the staff and students for their preparation and involvement in the day.
LIVING, LEARNING, LEADING PARENT/CAREGIVER SURVEY
Please remember to complete your Parent/Caregiver LLL Survey. A letter was sent home in Week 2 to all families with the details of how to complete the survey. There was also an entry form/reply slip for your child’s class to win a surprise recess. At the moment 1/2D are in the lead with 4/5P and 5/6S close behind!
CROSS COUNTRY
Well done to the Cross Country runners who participated in the SACPSSA Cross Country Carnival event last week in the Adelaide Parklands. Students ran 2km around the parklands and should be very proud of their efforts! Thanks to Daniel Nguyen, Matt Pick and Michelle Boyle who supported the students.
BOOK WEEK
Book Week will be celebrated across Australia from 16 - 23 August. The theme this year is ‘Book an Adventure’. Families are welcome to join us - we hope to see you there.
As I wrap up my time as Acting Principal, I want to extend my sincere thanks for the warm welcome over the past four weeks. It has been a privilege to be part of this wonderful school community, even for a short time. Shaun O’Leary will return as Principal on Monday 18 August.
Wishing you all the very best for the months ahead.
Thank you
Belinda Elliott

Multicultural Celebration
A group of our students, staff and parents are organizing a multicultural celebration which will be held on Wednesday 10th of September at 11:30am. Thanks you to our students, Peter, Jack U, Annabella, Charlee, Feben and Amelia for their leadership and preparation for this event. There will be more information shortly about the week including the day and time of performances.
There will be a special assembly lead by the students, and this will be followed by a shared school community lunch. We are inviting students to wear national costumes or colours from their family’s country of origin. You are most welcome to do the same.
We hope you might be able to join us for this whole school family event.
We would like to share in a picnic in the school grounds and ask that you consider if you would like to prepare and cook some food to share for this. Children should still bring or order their lunch. The shared food will be available to all, but it is hard to predict how much we will have to share.
The rules for preparation of food off the school site are listed below. It is essential that all food is prepared in the correct way and labelled clearly with all ingredients that have been used. This is important so that we can keep all our students who have food allergies safe.
Please read the following guidelines below if you are bringing food to share.
Kind regards
Simon McCullough on behalf of the Multicultural Committee

Separate - Don’t cross-contaminate
Cook - Cook to proper temperatures
Chill - Refrigerate promptly
Storage
- Always refrigerate perishable food within two hours (one hour when the temperature is above 32°C.
Preparation
- Always wash hands before and after handling food.
- Don’t cross -contaminate. Keep raw meat, poultry, fish and their juices away from the food. After cutting raw meats, wash hands, cutting board, knife, and counter tops with hot, soapy water.
Cooking
- Cook ground meats to 71°C; ground poultry to 73°C.
- Beef, veal and lamb steaks, roasts and chops may be cooked to 62°C; all cuts of fresh pork, 71°C.
- Whole poultry should reach 82°C in the thigh; breasts, 76°C.
Cook Thoroughly
Cook food to a safe internal temperature to destroy harmful bacteria. Meat and poultry cooked on a grill often browns very fast on the outside.

- Hot food should be held at 60°C or warmer.
- Cold foods should be held at 4°C or colder.
- When serving food at a buffet, keep food hot with chafing dishes, slow cookers, and warming trays. Keep food cold by nesting dishes in bowls of ice or use small serving trays and replace them often.
- Perishable food should not be left out more than two hours at room temperature (one hour when the temperature is above 32°C).
Serving the Food
When taking food off the grill, use a clean platter. Don’t put cooked food on the same platter that held raw meat or poultry. Any harmful bacteria present in the raw meat juices could contaminate safely cooked food. In hot weather (above 32°C), food should never sit out for more than one hour.

100 Days of School - Receptions Celebrate in Style!
Our Reception students recently marked a major milestone — 100 days of school! To celebrate, the children came dressed as 100-year-olds, complete with walking sticks, grey hair, glasses, and cardigans. It was a joyful day filled with fun activities, laughter, and a whole lot of imagination. The creativity on display was incredible! Be sure to check out the adorable photos below to see how our little “elders” brought the celebration to life.
